Spongebob Squarepants Is Getting A Video Game Remaster?

Arguably, one of the most iconic cartoon characters of all time, it was announced yesterday that “Spongebob Squarepants” will be getting an HD re-release/remake for, perhaps, his most popular game.

The 3D platformer will be released on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch. All the modern generation of game consoles. The game is based off the original 2003 version, only with better animation, yet still sporting that childish cartoon feel and look as you can see by the promotional image above.

First released in 2003 for PS2, Xbox, Gamecube, and PC, this was the first big Spongebob game to hit the market. The game was originally created by the now (somewhat) defunct THQ, but the rights for the game and many other THQ properties were acquired back in 2014 when THQ Nordic bought them.

Spongebob is still an on going franchise with a movie, “The Spongebob Movie: It’s a Wonderful Sponge” to be released on May 22nd. Sadly there is no news yet as to when “Spongebob Squarepants: Battle For Bikini Bottom Rehydrated” will be released, but there is a nostalgic and fun teaser trailer you can check out below.
