“Sonic the Hedgehog” Opens To A $100 Million Worldwide So Far…

Who ever thought that the “Sonic the Hedgehog” film would become the holder of the world record for the highest grossing opening weekend video game film of all time. After such an abysmal first trailer, Sonic has raced its way into our hearts with a worthwhile effort in making a 90’s property relevant again.

With the perfect timing of coming out on Valentine’s day and staying throughout the entirety of President’s day weekend. opening internationally to around $43 million and a national release of $57 million, nobody would’ve expected this film to be such a success.

Paramount Pictures states the movie as:

Based on the global blockbuster video game franchise from Sega, Sonic the Hedgehog tells the story of the world’s speediest hedgehog as he embraces his new home on Earth. In this live-action adventure comedy, Sonic and his new best friend Tom (James Marsden) team up to defend the planet from the evil genius Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) and his plans for world domination. The family-friendly film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Scwartz as the voice of Sonic.
