Yet again “Sesame Street” demonstrates why it is one of the greatest children shows of all time. Meet Karli, the newest muppet on the block. Karli is a muppet in foster care, her whole goal is to educate children on the existence of the foster care system.
So enter Karli, a young muppet in the foster care system. Karli explains how her mother isn’t doing so well right now. She says her mother is “having a hard time” and that her foster parents are there to “keep her safe until her mommy can take care of her again”. This opens an interesting dynamic that has been done before on the show but has always worked well. The dynamic works as such, Elmo who doesn’t know much about the situation poses questions the viewers may have to which the newer characters can answer to inform Elmo. This formula works very well with young viewers and children to help them understand the situation and the characters within it. Good on you “Sesame Street”.
