Rocky Johnson, Father of Dwayne Johnson, Passes Away At The Age of 75

Rocky Johnson, one of wrestling’s all time greats, passed away yesterday on January 15th, 2019. Father of the now Hollywood superstar and former professional wrestler, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Rocky paved a path for his son to run on.

One half of the first African-American tag team to win the Tag Team Championships, by beating the Wild Samoans, Rocky worked in the NWA and WWE. Along with Tony Atlas, Rocky “Soul Man” Johnson found most his popularity in the tag team known as “Soul Patrol” throughout the 1980’s.

In 1991, Rocky retired from wrestling and began training his son Dwayne Johnson, who first went under the ring name Rocky Maivia, in honor of his father, but found more fame as the always popular “The Rock”.

Rocky was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2008 by his son in a touching ceremony.

The cause of death is still unknown, but what is known is that Rocky Johnson had a strong impact on wrestling and the tag team division, and made history along with his partner Tony Atlas.
