Margot Robbie Praises Joaquin Pheonix’s “Joker” And Confirms Jared Leto’s Won’t Be In “Birds of Prey”

To say Joaquin Pheonix and Todd Phillip‘s “Joker” is one of the best films to come out of 2019 is an understatement, not only did it bring something new to the staling superhero genre, but also managed to become the highest grossing rated R film of all time. Pheonix’s performance was praised by some of the highest known names in Hollywood, one being a woman who knows a thing or two about Jokers… Margot Robbie.

Robbie, who states that she wanted her new film “Birds of Prey” to have an R rating from the get-go, was asked a question in a new interview with Variety, on what she thought about Pheonix’s interpretation of the character that spawned hers.

[Phoenix] did a phenomenal job,I feel like the ‘Joker’ film was much more grounded. Ours is different. It’s heightened.”

And as for Harley Quinn’s significant other half, he will not be making a return as the Clown Prince of Crime. After the failure of “Suicide Squad”, fans were glad that Harley Quinn was portrayed by such a talented actress who brought the character to life, as for Joker and Jared Leto… not so much. Thus, DC and Warner Bros. have decided that they will continue their path with Harley Quinn and leave the wretched memory of the Man Who Laughs behind in 2016.

As stated by Robbie in an interview with Variety:

“During “Suicide Squad,” Robbie says she “fell in love with” Harley Quinn, though she didn’t understand why the wildly brilliant, unstable character would stay in a relationship with the Joker (played by Jared Leto), who “wants to kill her most of the time… [Birds of Prey] as its subtitle implies, starts after Harley’s breakup with the Joker. Robbie confirms that Leto’s incarnation of the character doesn’t appear, not even as a cameo.”

It was rumored that Leto would not be reprising the role as far back as early fall, and the speculation of his anger towards the fact his Joker was given the boot for Todd Phillips and Joaquin Pheonix’s iteration, probably didn’t make him to happy. Yet, now it has been confirmed that DC is trying mighty hard to erase what fans didn’t like about “Suicide Squad” and keep what they do.
