Latest News: Three of the Best ‘Sherlock Holmes’ Games

While he is currently hard at work filming the latest Avengers film, Robert Downey Jr. has reportedly not giving up hope of bringing his take on Sherlock Holmes back to the big screen. Late last year, Variety reported that he was working with writers to get a new film together, with Jude Law expected to return as Dr. Watson and Guy Ritchie set to sit back in the director’s chair.

While it is a step forward for Sherlock Holmes 3, it means we’re still likely to face a long wait to see RDJ’s version of the character back in the cinema. With the future of Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sherlock series also up in the air, where are we going to get our Holmes fix in the meantime?

Fortunately, there are quite a few games based on Arthur Conan Doyle’s famous creation available and here we look at three which may well be worth your time.

Sherlock: The Network

Based on the BBC series starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, this rather brilliant mobile game was released by The Project Factory in 2014. It sees you become part of Sherlock’s trusted “homeless network”, delivering information and communicating clues in order to help him crack cases.

One of the best things about the game, which is available on Android and iOS, is the inclusion of specially recorded video clips of the stars addressing you directly when they are seeking your help. This makes it an absolute essential for fans of the acclaimed TV series, although there is plenty here for those who prefer a more traditional take on Holmes to also enjoy.

Sherlock: Murdered to Death

In a twist worthy of a Conan Doyle adventure, we thought we’d look at a bit of a curveball too. There are online slot games based on all kinds of famous franchises, celebrities and themes so it is perhaps unsurprising that Sherlock Holmes can be found in this area too.

Developed by InTouch Games, Sherlock – Murdered to Death packs in all of the references that you’d expect, from terrifying hounds to references to “The Woman” and visits to the ominously-named Murder Moors. The game is available on a host of sites some of which offer promotions, including mFortune’s online slots no deposit option along with £5 free for new players.

Sherlock Holmes: The Game

Released as a tie-in with the first film featuring Robert Downey Jr in 2009, this mobile game is a straightforward action title from Gameloft and proved popular with critics when it launched. It isn’t the most cerebral take on the character, but it follows the tone of the film with plenty of action to keep gamers entertained.

Available across platforms including iOS and Android, there is much fun to be had following clues and fighting villains to save London’s women from the clutches of an evil cult. All in all, an enjoyable way for Holmes fans to spend an afternoon or two.

Plenty of mysteries to enjoy

The above titles are of course just a handful of the games released based on Holmes and with both Cumberbatch and Robert Downey Jr’s versions of the character continuing to be hugely popular there is likely to be many more in the future. However, these titles are certainly a good start to keeping yourself occupied while you wait for more film and television adventures of the legendary detective.
