Talk About A Redemption Record…
Kesha is back with a vengeance! Bringing together old school techniques with a modern pop flair, the new album Rainbow definitely puts her back in the spotlight.
With the help of some of her closest friends (Dolly Parton and Ben Folds for instance), Kesha sounds happier and more energetic than ever. The whole record mixed together the best of 2000’s pop punk, 70’s country, and vintage studio magic. “Praying” has a very modern sound with a hard and open production. Other songs like “Old Flames (Can’t Hold A Candle To You)” update the classic 70’s country sound while the self titled “Rainbow” brings back the classic orchestrated productions of groups like The Beach Boys, Meatloaf, and Bette Midler.
The album really drives from its raw emotion though. Kesha didn’t just make another record, she set out to make a statement and leave her mark on the record industry. After all of her recent lows as well, I would say she did just that. I only hope that the record gets the praise that it deserves.
At the end of the day though, I hope Kesha continues in the is more heartfelt direction and also bring more natural musicians and sounds into her future discography like she did on Rainbow. Any one of these songs can be performed acoustically or with an entire band and that’s what makes great music. Hopefully she has more to show, give, and prove that she is not down for the count!
