Two of the world’s most famous giant monsters going at it in a free for all fight to the death. What can be cooler than that? Nothing. Cities will be destroyed, chaos will reign, and only one giant “kiaju” monster will be left standing. But who will be the one to survive?
With the release “Godzilla: King of the Monsters“, “Godzilla vs. Kong” will be the fourth film in the MonsterVerse, a universe that revolves around the films and stories about the characters Godzilla and King Kong. This film will also be the 39th film in the “Godzilla” franchise as well as the ninth film in the “King Kong” franchise.
Questions arise as to how this film will play out. A Japanese character who is obviously the biggest and baddest monster to ever be created in fiction (excluding lovecraftian myths), and an American character whose so recognizable to the point where if you see a gorilla that is just bigger than average you think to yourself “look its King Kong”. So who will win? Well if the original 1962 version of this film says anything about it, it will be….. King Kong, well at least so for American audiences. See the interesting thing about the original film was that it had two endings, one for the American audience where King Kong won and one for the Japanese audience where Godzilla won. Or perhaps neither will win and they will both team up to defeat a bigger threat that hasn’t been revealed yet (maybe space Godzilla? And yes that is a thing), also known coping out.
To be honest though, I think it is more likely that they will end up teaming up to defeat some other threat. The creatures and characters are to important to the studio and the making of money to have either of them die. Yet, maybe one won’t die but instead be massively hurt, and that will symbolize its defeat. Who knows? Guess we will have to wait until March 13th, 2020 to see.
