“We did a deal with David Benioff and D.B Weiss, who are famous for Game of Thrones, and the next movie that we release will be theirs, and we’re not saying anything more about that.”
At this summit, Iger went on to talk about the franchise for the next three years. Planning on taking a 3 year break from the films, so that David Benioff and D.B. Weiss can write and work on the next film, Disney also announced that they plan on releasing two Star Wars related shows on their streaming platform, Disney +.
So far there is a concern by Star Wars fans about these new writers, due to the over-growing criticism about the latest season of “Game of Thrones”. Yet, Disney assures those worried fans that 3 years is a perfect amount of time to hit the break button and reset.
Weiss and Benioff will be releasing their Star Wars films every other year from 2022 to 2026, so that they alternate with the release of the new “Avatar” films. This has left people to be curious about Rian Johnson’s supposed Star Wars trilogy, that was supposed to take place after the Skywalker saga has ended.
