“Friends” Reunion Special Officially Confirmed!

Finally, one of the largest shows to ever grace television will be getting its reunion special, after nearly 20 years in the making. Featuring the original cast of the hit show “Friends“, Jennifer Aniston, Matthew Perry, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer, this episode will air on the HBO streaming service, HBO Max.

After being reported/rumored around November of 2019, the “Friends” reunion special went quite for the months to follow, even after the shows switch from Netflix to HBO Max at the beginning of the new year. Now, Kevin Reilly, chief content officer of HBO Max and president of TBS and TNT, has confirmed that the special will be happening.

Kevin Reilly had this to say, “Guess you could call this the one where they all got back together — we are reuniting with David, Jennifer, Courteney, Matt, Lisa, and Matthew for an HBO Max special that will be programmed alongside the entire Friends library. I became aware of Friends when it was in the very early stages of development and then had the opportunity to work on the series many years later and have delighted in seeing it catch on with viewers generation after generation. It taps into an era when friends – and audiences – gathered together in real time and we think this reunion special will capture that spirit, uniting original and new fans.

One thing to be made clear is that this is not a reboot for the show. Jennifer Aniston made that clear on the Ellen Show when asked the same question. Aniston then stated, “We would love for there to be something, but we don’t know what that something is. So, we’re just trying. We’re working on something.
