Check Out The CW’s Crafty New Show “The Secret Circle”

The CW debuted a new show to its lineup last week titled The Secret Circle. True to The CW’s fashion of shows like Supernatural and Vampire Diaries which deal with the paranormal, legends, and myths: SC deals with witchcraft. Six witches to be exact (both males and females), whose stories and backgrounds will be revealed as the season progresses. Now on to the review, stop here is you don’t want to be spoiled.

I found the 1st episode in one word cute. The show revolved around a young
girl Cassie Blake whose mother is killed in a house fire. It is ruled accidental, but those of us watching see what really happens with our first introduction to witchcraft in the show, (a car stops in front of the house a man gets out, pours a bottle of water on the ground, as that happens the faucet in the house goes off. As Cassie’s mother is dealing with that, he takes out a matchbook and starts lighting matches and the gas burner on the stove goes off. The more matches the more the house ends up in flames till it is totally
engulfed. Personally I was impressed by the effect, and I have to say I am glad
to see Gale Harold (Charles Meade) back on The CW after the short lived HELLCATS.
After the fire, she ends up moving to a town called Chance Harbor to live with
her grandmother. It turns out her mother left Chance Harbor shortly after she
was born and the death of her father under mysterious circumstances.  Turns out Cassie is the last teen needed to form a new coven of 6, but she has no clue she is a witch through much of the 1st  half of the show and has to be shown through a series of events/spells by the rest of the coven. Once introduced, that’s where things get interesting, we as
viewers learn that years earlier her father as well as every other teen in the coven who had a parent from the original coven died mysteriously from a spell that backfired. The how, whats, and whys, we will learn as the season progresses.

As far as 1st episodes go, it wasn’t bad. A little too much teen drama for my taste, but they have a nice balance of adults to round out the cast. I look forward to seeing what these teens can do, and especially to finding out more about the back story that is the towns deep dark secret. Hopefully this show won’t disappoint. Stay tuned…

The Secret Circle airs Thursday at 9pm est following The Vampire Diaries on The CW.

SYNOPSIS: Cassie Blake was a happy, normal teenage girl – until her mother Amelia dies in what appears to be a tragic accidental fire. Orphaned and deeply saddened, Cassie moves in with her warm and loving grandmother Jane in the beautiful small town of Chance Harbor, Washington – the town her mother left so many years before – where the
residents seem to know more about Cassie than she does about herself. As Cassie
gets to know her high school classmates, including sweet-natured Diana and her
handsome boyfriend Adam, brooding loner Nick, mean-girl Faye and her sidekick
Melissa, strange and frightening things begin to happen. When her new friends
explain that they are all descended from powerful witches, and they’ve been
waiting for Cassie to join them and complete a new generation of the Secret
Circle, Cassie refuses to believe them – until Adam shows her how to unlock her
incredible magical powers. But it’s not until Cassie discovers a message from
her mother in an old leather-bound book of spells hidden in her mother’s
childhood bedroom, that she understands her true and dangerous destiny. What
Cassie and the others don’t yet know is that darker powers are at play, powers
that might be linked to the adults in the town, including Diana’s father and
