LIDDELL ENTERTAINMENT AND ROADSIDE ATTRACTIONS PARTNER ON “ALBERT NOBBS”

Glenn Close To Star In Period Pic Due Fall 2011

(Los Angeles, July 5)  – Liddell Entertainment and Roadside Attractions have
acquired all U.S. rights to ALBERT NOBBS, directed by Rodrigo Garcia and
starring five-time Oscar nominee Glenn Close as a woman passing as a man in
order to work and survive in 19th century Dublin.  Close won an Obie Award in
1982 for playing the Nobbs character Off-Broadway in Simone Benmussa’s
theatrical interpretation of the same George Moore novella that the film is
based upon, “The Singular Life of Albert Nobbs,” and she has been passionate to
bring the character to the screen for almost 30 years.  The New York Times raved
of Close on stage, “The performance is transforming.”  Industry pundits already
rank her among those likely to be vying for an Oscar this season.

Rodrigo Garcia (MOTHER AND CHILD) directs ALBERT NOBBS from a script that Gabriella Prekop, Man Booker prize-winning novelist John Banville and Glenn Close wrote based on a story by Istvan Szabo, adapted from the Moore novella. ALBERT  NOBBS marks Close’s first screenplay credit, as well as her feature film producing debut.  The film also stars Mia Wasikowska, Aaron Johnson, Janet McTeer, Pauline Collins, Brenda
Fricker, Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Brendan Gleeson.   Producers are Glenn Close,
Bonnie Curtis, Julie Lynn and Alan Moloney.  Production companies are Trillium
Productions, Mockingbird Pictures and Parallel Film Productions, with support
from WestEnd Films and Chrysalis Films, as well as the participation of the
Irish Film Board. The director of photography is Michael McDonough, the
production designer is Oscar-winner Patrizia Von Brandenstein, the
transformative make-up is by Oscar-winner Matthew Mungle, the editor is Steven
Weisberg, the costume designer is Pierre-Yves Gayraud, and the composer is Brian
Byrne.

The domestic deal was announced jointly by Mickey Liddell of Liddell Entertainment and Howard Cohen and Eric d’Arbeloff, Co-Presidents of Roadside Attractions.   The two companies will co-venture on a fall 2011 release, as they did on this past year’s
Oscar-nominated BIUTIFUL. WestEnd is handling international sales.

“Glenn Close appears in nearly every frame as Albert Nobbs, and her performance is masterful,” said Liddell.  “This is an intimate film full of big ideas in the tradition of GOSFORD PARK and SENSE AND SENSIBILITY.”

d’Arbeloff added, “This great story about a woman forced to hide in plain sight will resonate with contemporary filmgoers.  Glenn Close is one of the true leading ladies of
American cinema, and her vision for this film is incredibly inspiring.”

Liddell and attorney Chad Reineke negotiated for Liddell Entertainment.  Cohen
negotiated on behalf of Roadside Attractions.  CAA represented the filmmakers.

Synopsis: Management candidate Nick Hendricks (Jason Bateman) has been logging 12-hour days and eating everything his twisted supervisor Dave Harken (Kevin Spacey) dishes out, toward the promise of a well-earned promotion.  But now he knows that’s never going to happen.  Meanwhile, dental assistant Dale Arbus (Charlie Day) has been struggling to maintain his self-respect against the relentless X-rated advances of Dr. Julia Harris, D.D.S. (Jennifer Aniston), when she suddenly turns up the heat.  And accountant Kurt Buckman (Jason Sudeikis) has just learned that his company’s corrupt new owner, Bobby Pellit (Colin Farrell), is not only bent on ruining his career but plans to funnel toxic waste into an unsuspecting population.

What can you do when your boss is a psycho, a man-eater or a total tool?

Quitting is not an option.  These monsters must be stopped.  So, on the strength of a few-too-many drinks and some dubious advice from a hustling ex-con whose street cred is priced on a sliding scale (Jamie Foxx), the guys devise a convoluted but foolproof plan to rid the world of their respective employers… permanently.

GREEN LANTERN 2011 REVIEW

“GREEN LANTERN” Review: Just Sit Back And Enjoy

I took my boys to see the pre-screening of Green Lantern, a movie they waited months to see, and I have to say we all enjoyed it.

SYNOPSIS: In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds). Hal is a gifted and cocky test pilot, but the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the infinite powers of the ring before. — (C) Warner Bros

That being said. I like Reynold’s dry humor. I have in every movie I have seen him in. He makes the perfect angsty super hero in the making. Not even going there on the sexy factor.

Peter Sarsgaard really stood out as Hector Hammond, who grew up with both Jordan and Carol. After being infected with an alien virus he mutates into a grotesque 1/2 human, 1/2 alien figure. Watching him go from a geeky bio teacher to a sinster villain with powers was done with such a perfection that you didn’t know whether to cheer or jeer for the character.

As for Reynold’s love interest Blake Lively (Carol Ferris). There wasn’t much chemistry between the two of them. Although I have enjoyed Ms. Lively’s performances in other films. It just didn’t work here. It was more forced and less flowing.

The 3-D visual effects were good as were the fight scenes. I will throw a shout out there that I loved finding out that a good friend of mine Spencer Wilding played the part of Kilowog (although the voice is that of Michael Clark Duncan). Parallax started out as an interesting looking character in the beginning, but towards the end, I have to say he started to remind me of the smoke monster from LOST.

All in all, I would say Green Lantern is a great movie to take the kids to see. My boys enjoyed it and their ages range from 17, 11, to 8 (who even brought his own Green Lantern ring to hold up at the appropriate times). Thumbs Up!

With the encouragement of fellow pilot and childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris (Blake Lively), if Hal can quickly master his new powers and find the courage to overcome his fears, he may prove to be not only the key to defeating Parallax…he will become the greatest Green Lantern of all.
