In a recent conference call with Activision Blizzard for their quarterly financial report, the company of course touched upon their new and upcoming game. In this conference call they revealed that the game will be hosting a myriad of “post-launch content” that will add to the experience of the game.
If you are an avid gamer, when you see the words “post-launch content” you see the words DLC, and when you see the words DLC and Activision in the same sentence you get a bit queasy. Well do not fear my friends because you won’t have to pay a dime for these new inclusions to the game.
The company behind the new “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare” wants to make an impact with this game and set standards that will not hinder the game as well as potentially hype up the rest of their titles. For the first time in the history of the Call of Duty franchise, this game will not feature a payable season pass. You will be able to get all the new maps, characters, skins and other DLC for free, available to everyone.
Now here is the catch with this game. Although you will not have to pay for any of the DLC, making sure you don’t have to pay that extra $50-$60 after you just bought the game, which is around $50-$60, that does not mean the game won’t have microtransactions. Ever since the release of Modern Warfare 3 back in 2011, season passes have been included in every Call of Duty game since, so losing that aspect of revenue, it is most likely a sure thing that microtransactions will be implemented in this upcoming game.
