Bruce Lee’s Family Is Angered With Quentin Tarantino’s Depiction Of The Actor

It seems some people aren’t so happy about the inclusion of Bruce Lee, portrayed by Mike Moh, as a character in “Once Upon a Time In Hollywood“. Stating it was a wrong and rude depiction of the famous martial artist/actor, and that Quentin Tarantino didn’t even know him. Yet, Tarantino sticks by his depiction of Lee saying it was the correct depiction of the character.

Lee’s family came out and stated that the depiction of their late family member was entirely wrong, even having his daughter Shannon Lee state that the film made her father look like an “arrogant a**hole”. Shannon Lee then went on to state that her father would never challenge someone to a fight like that, referring to the scene between character Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt) and Lee. Tarantino then returned with comments saying that Bruce Lee was a “kind of arrogant guy” and that he didn’t just make it up for the film. Tarantino then went on to talk about how he didn’t see a problem with Cliff “beating up” Bruce Lee because Cliff is not a real person, even going on and comparing it to saying something like “Bruce Lee could beat up Dracula.

Bruce Lee’s daughter, Shannon, was not satisfied by these comments it seems. Stating that…

He could shut up about it,” she then went on to say in a podcast with Variety, “That would be really nice. Or he could apologize or he could say, ‘I don’t really know what Bruce Lee was like. I just wrote it for my movie. But that shouldn’t be taken as how he really was.’

Shannon has tried to keep the legacy and memory of her father alive for most of her life. Being around 50 years old right now, Shannon has worked hard keeping Lee’s memory alive with things such as the Bruce Lee Foundation, which was created in 2002.

According to famous stories, Bruce Lee was known to have a legendary temper. Yet, does this justify the depiction of the actor within Tarantino’s film? What do you think, leave a comment about whether or not you believe it was a correct depiction or if Tarantino should apologize, even though we know he never will.
