“IT’S NEGANS WAY…OR YOU WILL FEEL THE WRATH OF LUCILLE”
Last seasons finale left “The Walking Dead” fans in anguish for almost 7 months to what I will say was the most anticipated season premiere since the Dallas cliffhanger of “Who shot JR?” 36 years ago. Yet, nothing could prepare us for what we witnessed last night ad will still be talking about for weeks to come, and they were not kidding when they stated “We’re Just Getting Started!”
The rawness and unpredictability of last nights episode left my head spinning with disbelief as not only Abraham (Michael Cudlitz) died at the hands of Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and his girl Lucille, but then our beloved Glenn (Steven Yeun), which stayed true to the comic with the bursted eyeball and brains leaking out.
Watching Daryl (Norman Reedus) being taken from the rest of the group and being thrown in the back of the van like a caged animal left me with such a knot in my stomach, wondering at this point if even he was expendable!?
I was sickened as Negan’s group finally broke up with the promise that they will meet up very soon for their supplies, only to see one of Negan’s men taking a trophy Polaroid of Glen’s body. Sickening but interesting…makes me curious to find out about Negan’s back story…
What I love about this show is during times of great tragedy, and I can not think of one worse than we witnessed during last night’s premiere (no disrespect to Hershel (Scott Wilson), this group of people who are a family still show love and humanity for one another. In the end, I believe they will be a force to be reckoned with!
In the end, as Eugene (Josh McDermitt), Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green), and Rosita (Christian Serratos), take away Abraham for a proper burial, Rick, Carl, Aaron (Ross Marquand), and Michonne (Danai Gurira) remove Glen’s body away for burial as well leaving Maggie (Lauren Cohan) standing…sobbing between two pools of blood on the ground showing the magnitude of their loss!
I loved the flash forward scene of what could have been, with everyone sitting around a picnic table having dinner and Glen at the end holding his and Maggies baby boy in his lap while he turns and looks at Abraham…very poignant moment, while Negan does a voice over telling Rick that they make act like they are family having Thanksgiving dinner but that is not going to happen, people die!
The final credits saw Rick getting into the camper left to them by Negan while looking at an approaching Zombie in his side view mirror stop at one of the pools of blood and drop to its knees lapping at it hungrily…and might I add grossly. The look in Rick’s eyes as it fades to the credits is one alone that tells me this season is off to a great start and is only going to get better!!!
