The Real Doomsday Could Be Upon Us!!!
Some bad news is on the horizon. Fans of The Walking Dead were prepared for an epic and bloody battle between Rick and Negan, but there now may be a possibility it will not happen. Instead the battle is raging between the Writers Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Pictures and Television Producers. The WGA wants to be paid more since writing jobs pay less when shows run shorter seasons and are also asking for better healthcare. If both parties cannot reach an agreement by May 1st, the WGA will go on strike the next day.
WGA executive director David J. Young stated, “Should this occur…writing for television, feature films, and digital series will cease. Some scripted series scheduled to air in the summer of 2017 may be affected as writing and producing for the season is ongoing.”
Fortunately, shows like Game of Thrones and the upcoming season of Twin Peaks won’t be affected since they have already filmed and finished, but late night talk shows and series that haven’t started filming (Jessica Jones, American Horror Story, and The Walking Dead), are in trouble.
The last writers strike (which lasted from November 5, 2007 to February 12, 2008) affected hit shows such as Lost and Big Bang Theory resulting in fewer episodes and cancellations like Bionic Woman and The 4400.
There is still a little over a week before “doomsday” hits, so hopefully an agreement can be made soon. Fingers crossed!
