Don’t Forget Your Stomp And Clap Along!!
Get ready to hoot and holler for this hootenanny!! If you have not heard of Caravan of Thieves, then you have have been sorely missing out. Soaked deep in the blood of cabaret and gypsy jazz, Caravan of Thieves puts on an energy fueled live show no matter where they set their instruments and their sophomore album Mischief Night proves that beyond belief.
Recorded live at a sold out show in Fairfield, Connecticut, Mischief Night makes the listener wish they could be there to revel in the festivities as well. Right off the bat with the song “Shim Sham“, one is brought into the middle of a pots and pans orchestra that sets up the swinging tune perfectly. Next up is one of my personal favorites from the group, “Ghostwriter” does not stray too far from its original studio recording, however it does bring a little more craziness than what previously appeared on their debut album Bouquet.
Along with original numbers though, they have sneaked in a few covers of classics like “Bohemian Rhapsody“, “Psycho Killer“, and “Being For The Benefit of Mr. Kite” among others adding a vintage flair to such iconic tracks.
Girl/Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite:
All in all, Mischief Night shows what Caravan of Thieves is all about. With a great show and some impressive musical chops to boot (the track “Bar Isole/ Tocatta e Caravan” showcases this perfectly), the record offers a great look into what happens when the past and present collide. Plus, it makes great Halloween music! To get a taste of what the band is like live, check out the video below and don’t miss out on Mischief Night!
