Musician Chris Cornell was found dead in his hotel room at the MGM Grand Detroit last night just hours after performing with Soundgarden at the Fox Theatre in Detroit. He was 52. As reported by The Associated Press, a police investigation is underway with officials saying his death was a suicide. Cornell was found by a family friend unresponsive on the bathroom floor and announced dead on the scene when officials came. Reports say that Cornell hung himself although an autopsy hasn’t been completed as of yet.
“His wife, Vicky, and family were shocked to learn of his sudden and unexpected passing, and they will be working closely with the medical examiner to determine the cause,” his publicist stated.
Footage from last nights concert in Detroit surfaced on YouTube this morning of Soundgarden performing one of their signature tracks, “Spoonman” with the audience (as you can hear) singing along to every word.
Cornell will not be forgotten in the music world with grieving fans, friends, and fellow musicians paying tribute the late great artist on social media and concerts.
R.I.P. Chris Cornell. You will be missed.
