DOOMSDAY IS TODAY!!!

Writers-strike

Two weeks ago, Shallow Graves Nick Kelley, reported on the impending writers strike and how it can and will affect some of our favorite shows, such as ‘The Walking Dead’!

Doomsday is upon us now, and the latest news is, if the Writers Guild of America  can’t come up with a contractual agreement by midnight tonight, the writers will in fact, go on strike Tuesday.

journeymanThe last writers strike (which lasted from November 5, 2007 to February 12, 2008) affected hit shows such as Lost and Big Bang Theory resulting in fewer episodes and cancellations like JourneymanBionic Woman and The 4400 who never even got a chance.

With the only enjoyable piece of work coming out of the writers strike being ‘DR. HORRIBLE’S SING ALONG BLOG’. which is a 2008 musical comedy-drama miniseries in three acts, produced exclusively for Internet distribution. Filmed and set in Los Angeles, the show tells the story of Dr. Horrible (Neil Patrick Harris), an aspiring super-villain; with his own video blog, is attempting to join the prestigious Evil League of Evil (led by the legendary “thoroughbred of sin”, Bad Horse), but his plans are usually foiled by the egotistical superhero Captain Hammer (Nathan Fillion). Horrible’s life is thrown for a loop when he falls in love with Penny (Felicia Day), a beautiful and optimistic advocate for the homeless he meets at the laundromat, a situation which complicates itself even further when Penny begins dating the boorish, oafish Hammer after he apparently saves her life. Faced with the task of impressing the League, can Horrible overcome his own incompetence to ruin the day, kill the hero, and still get the girl?dr. horribles sing-along blog

The movie was written by writer/director Joss Whedon, his brothers Zack Whedon (a television writer) and Jed Whedon (a composer), and writer/actress Maurissa Tancharoen. The team wrote the musical during the 2007–2008 Writers Guild of America strike. The idea was to create something small and inexpensive, yet professionally done, in a way that would circumvent the issues that were being protested during the strike. It went on to win several awards, including  People’s Choice Award for “Favorite Online Sensation”,

So the countdown begins…Fingers crossed that an agreement is reached…if not will there be a Dr. Horrible Pt. 2 in the works???
